Since its opening in 1996, Qantm College has been known as a leading digital media educator in Australia, specializing in 3D animation, games design and programming, web development and graphic design. It was initially established to be a leading digital media educator specializing in 3D animation, games design and programming, web development and graphic design.

In 2004, Qantm became part of the SAE Institute system, and has continued to be a leading name in gaming and graphic design. In Australia, Qantm programs are available in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

Qantm students can choose from a number of interesting, thought-provoking programs. These include a bachelor of creative media degree with a major in graphic design, and a bachelor of interactive entertainment with a major in interactive media, major in animation, or majors in games programming and games design. There are also diploma programs in Screen and Media, with concentrations in animation and interactive digital media. Additionally, Qantm offers a certificate in media.

The bachelor?s in interactive media demands of students a commitment to both their creative and technical skills. Students will learn to adapt to evolving technologies, a mindset they will need to employ throughout their careers.

Interactive media students will cover a range of subject areas, including web and graphic design, digital video and audio, digital advertising and marketing, games, web and application development, and animation. Qantm graduates will be well-prepared to enter the industry of their choice post-graduation, as they will have been trained in the latest technologies and have a broad knowledge base of standards and practices.

The?graphic design?major course is built with the aim of teaching students advanced design practices, while encouraging them to grasp the vital aspects of visual communication theory.

Students develop a practical portfolio of work and complete multiple design projects throughout the program. There is a strong emphasis on practical application, and graphic design students complete a 12-week internship elective unit. Qantm?s internship program provides students with real-world work experience, gives employers the opportunity for on-the-job appraisal, and allows students to demonstrate their skills in an environment that exposes them to Qantm?s invaluable industry contacts.

Career options for graphic design majors include Graphic Designer, Graphic Illustrator, Image Re-toucher, Pre-press Productioner, Creative Director, Typographer, and Web Designer.

Among the development platforms with which students will become familiar are XHTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL, online games development using Flash Actionscript, and interactive content development for mobile devices such as iPhone and iPad. There are many career options available to interactive media graduates, including Interface Designer, Interaction Designer, Web Designer, Web Programmer, e-Commerce Designer, Flash Animator, Flash Programmer, Project Manager, e-Business Developer, e-Learning Developer, Creative Media Consultant, Creative Media Developer, Sound Editor, Video Editor, 2D Animator, Web Developer (programming and scripting), Instructional Designer, and Website Manager.

Animation students at Qantm will graduate well-versed in all aspects of the creative process, from the earliest stages of concept design to its implementation in various interactive entertainment platforms. In addition to creative and practical skills involved in animation production, students will also be exposed to the business aspects of the industry. Project management, business skills and copyright law may not be the first aspects of animation that come to mind when one thinks about the job, but they are essential for developing a well-rounded understanding of this field.

Game programming majors receive intensive training in C++, the development language that is currently used by many development companies. Students will learn everything from building physics engines to rendering animations, and will be required to complete key systems essential for any game.

Presumably, game programming majors will plan to seek a career in the gaming field, but the skills acquired through this degree program will allow them to easily learn new programming languages and techniques that can open doors in many industries.

Students interested in this course should have at least a strong understanding of advanced high school-level mathematics and would be well-served by a background in physics as well. Theoretical components that will be covered in this course include basic games design and storytelling, animation concepts and a thorough understanding of how these fields relate in the games arena. Students will undertake systems design in order to better plan for the requirements of their programs, mathematics to serve as the basis for all of the complex tasks necessary to create a game, and artificial intelligence theory to give games a ?live? feeling using A-Life and neural networks.

Games Design is an intense program best suited to those who are strongly committed to a career in this specific field. Throughout the course of the program, games design majors will learn scripting, testing, prototyping, psychology, philosophy, character design, level design, and script writing, among other areas.

Game Design majors go on to careers as Character Designers, Games Designers, Composers, Script Writers, Games Testers, Concept Artists, Level Designers, Environment Artists, Project Managers, and Quality Assurance professionals.
